Hi everyone, thought this article that I read online about a new food might be of interest to the dog lovers on the board. The guys who set up the company aren't too far from us, looks like a brilliant idea.

It's all human quality, with the benefits of raw but without the inconvenience of defrosting meat, preparing meals from home etc. Worth a look.

I think this sounds like a great idea - I already feed my dog human grade food (in kibble form) with no grains or fillers, so this is just a different form, but I like the logic applied.

Thanks for alerting us.

Sorry not impressed but thanks for sharing.

Do you realise what 'human grade' actually means? You may imagine nice fresh cuts of chicken, beef, etc. however in reality it probably refers to the by products from human grade meats... Category C. More info here, scroll down to categories -

who knows how that 'product' is then handled and stored before being sold to the dog food processors. There are Defra rules in place about such things however having done a little poking around it is scary how many companies dont comply with these.

There is a new supplier setting up in Scotland - they arent quite up and running yet but Ive been following them on FB and I am very very impressed with how they are going about things.

West Fife Raw Feeds - worth a look.

Raw potato?

Think the potato is heated at around 90C according to the site so not strictly raw, my mistake.

30% chicken in the chicken one.....

This isn't raw feeding at all!!

It's dehydrated meat though isn't it, so would be the equivalent of around 4 times that amount of fresh meat, which is about 75% water.

I appreciate that, but from what I have read of the article they aren't just using human grade ingredients, they are making it in a human grade facility regulated by the human food authorities, I would have hoped that would mean the controls were a lot tighter as they aren't strictly dog food processors. Plus it says all the meat used is meat muscle, not by products.

that's something certainly!

Its a huge issue for me tbh - Ive stopped using my usual raw suppliers and started sourcing my own from supermarkets etc until the place i linked to above start selling. Your place doesnt have a high enough meat content for me though.

Yeah that's fair enough, I understand where you are coming from.

I think my initial title might have been a bit misleading to be honest. I don't think this is meant as an alternative for people who are happy feeding raw, more so for the people currently feeding kibble or tinned foods, that can't, or won't raw feed for whatever reason.

I guess the 'logic', which another poster referred to, is that a low processed food, made with higher quality ingredients wins hands down over a highly processed kibble.

Well the 30% of any meat in dog food has the moisture removed. Therefore the 30% in this food is still only 30% meat compared to the other fillers (sorry veg is filler very little nutritional value).

So compared to some foods out there the meat content is very poor tbh.

Also the fact the feed swells up with water really worries me as leave the door very open to bloat if the owner gets it wrong, feeds to early or dog gets it dry accidently.
