After a few health problems and a dodgy horse (things aint what they used to be are they!!), I am now going to start looking for another horse TO RIDE. For a while there I thought that riding would be a complete no no but no more!!

Anyway, I want an ID for their pure sensibility!

Where is the best place to advertise/look for such a horse, that will only ever be used for hacking and as a family friend? I don't want to waste a potential hunter/competition horse as they are such a versatile breed!

No help other than to say, I don't believe any horse that is loved and well cared for is wasted. Horses don't have any aspirations at all and I think any horse would be lucky to be a well loved family friend that spends its time happily pootling round the countryside. To be honest I wouldn't worry if it 'could' go far - as long as you and the horse get on I don't think that really matters.

I think it might be worth contacting some of the ID breeders to see if they can point you in the right direction - whereabouts are you in the country?

There are more about than you think. IDHS website has mostly young stock. Contact dealers who specialise in Irish & sift through them as some are more ok than others. Look on Horsequest & spread the word your on the lookout. PM me about dealers if you want. One thing to be aware of is they are usually 16h1" or bigger. Idxconnemara if you want anything smaller. Good luck - they're the best!
