About 2 months ago I was made a very serious offer on Tilly. Now there is no way I would sell so it really doesn't matter that much and of course I said no!

But out of interest I wondered how much you'd think she is worth?

Breeding is http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/simply+serendipity

She currently stands at just over 16hh and will probably make 16.2hh. She will be 3 in May. I don't think I need to tell you about her temp etc as its pretty obvious from my posts. Work wise, she lightly lunges, longreins, walks out, goes in hand nicely and will happily be sat on. Immpecable manners!

Only downside are her 2 scars from old injuries which are purely cosmetic: 1 thick scar on the front of her OF pastern and another smaller scar and a splint on her NH cannon.

Oh and she jumps! Her favourite pastime is jumping the 5 ft fencing in her field! (I DO NOT JUMP HER - she is a hoodini!)

The only blemished 3 year old that I sold was sold for 1K. This was 18 months ago. However he was a gelding and he was not well bred, although smart and put together well. You're horse would have value as a broodmare also ( whereas mine obviously didnt) - I would probably say 1.5k , hard to say anymore - although she does have jumping ability I would be wary of the splint.

I understand entirely where you are coming from with the splint - it was my biggest concern before I got her. However, it isn't a true splint in that it isnt the splint bone which is affected. She basically has a calcified enlargement (the result of an untreated kick before I got her) of her cannon bone (about half way up, on the outside) and it has reduced to about half its size since I got her 18 months ago.

The vet has checked it over for me on numerous occasions and has now convinced me that it will cause no problems what so-ever and may even give that cannon a little more strength - it is purely cosmetic but obviously does reduce her value....

Being a youngster I have absolutely no idea how much she is worth but lets just say I was offered around 3 x your estimate which really took me by surprise as I'd also have thought she'd only be worth around 1.5-2K

You have got Ben Purple in her pedigree and we had one whose grandsire was ben purple. He was crossed with a throughbred and is now eventing. We bought him as a five year old and showjumped him up to 125 before we sent him eventing to which he was much better suited. Super horse and lovely to look at. If yours is anything like ours then he is well worth keeping.

PRICELESS!!!

Seriously though, without seeing her scars in the flesh, it's very difficult to say! For a well bred youngster, there used to be a rule of thumb of £1K for each year of life, but that's no longer the case! Without the scars, then I would pay £3K for her, maybe more., would depend if she grabs me as much in the flesh as she does in her pics/vids!

I wouldn't hazard a guess, youngstock are notoriously difficult to sell as they are such a risk whilst they grow up. I would insure her for a minimum of £3000 so if the worst did happen you7 could buy a similar aged horse. (oh and Tullough Hero's offspring grow much bigger than you would expect, one of ours made 17.2hh and another 16.3hh both a lot bigger than their dams!)

INDEED!

These are pics of her scars taken just over a year ago (no recent ones Im afraid) and I would say both have halved in size since then.

Would you be surprised if I told you the offer was for £5K !! I nearly passed out!

Nooo! Don't tell me that! If it makes any difference it is her mother who is by him and she only made 16.2hh. I'm not sure if I could get on anything bigger - she was menat to stop at 16.1hh

I think she is fantastic- not in the least bit bothered about her scars- and I am not surprised that someone offered you £5k for her. I like her very very much.

No, actually I'm not suprised! She's a very smart filly, who has fabulous action/movement! I'm just a tight arse - though not as tight as some
