Not quite sure if this should go in veterinary but it's not really so i'm putting it in here anyway...

I accidentally got sprayed in the eye with purple spray this afternoon, do i need to get this checked out & is it likely to cause any damage or should it be ok? It was only a few drops, most of the spray hit my neck & t-shirt. I rinsed it with lots of cold water straight away & it's not stung or hurt at all and my visions been fine. It happened about 2 1/2 hrs ago now, i asked a nurse friend of mine & she said it should be fine, just wondered if any of you had ever done the same? It was the one from Robinsons, in the plain white bottle. It has absolutley no warnings or instructions on so i'd have thought if it was nasty to eyes it would have said. Am i right in saying basically all it is is chlorhexadine gluconate, so pretty much hibiscrub? Looked on hibiscrub bottle & just says rinse will if it comes into contact with eyes.

Can anyone put my mind at rest & say it's fine or should i really get it looked at?

If its just chlorhexadine and you have rinsed it all out you will be fine. I've splashed hibi in my eyes before and from what I can remember it wasn't even that irritating. Best to use iodine if your going to do it again though ;-)

You "washed" your eyes immediately and you have had no problems in the last 2 hrs so you should be ok.
Rinse your eye again before bed but if it becomes itchy or sore call the NHS direct help line for advice.
Cucumber or a cold tea bag relieves sore eyes.
All chemicals by law have to have a Safety Data Sheet held by the manufacturer and retailer in-case of emergencies so if you are worried then i would call Robinson's in the morning but like you said if it was harmful then they would have to have warnings on the bottle.
Also if it was dangerous it would also have to have a safety cap.
I know i sound sad but i work in QA!!!
If you swallowed it/got it in your mouth then drink plenty of water to dilute it, don't induce vomiting.

Unfortunately i think the most damage you have done is to your clothes and explaining to people what you have a purple neck!!!! :D

Ahh thanks guys. I'm much less concerned now. Will wash it out properly again before i go to bed tonight but it's been about 4 1/2-5 hrs now & no itchyness, soreness etc... so guess it'll be fine :D

This happened to me a few years ago too! Stung a bit at the time but having rinsed my eyes it was fine. Hardest thing was getting the purple off my face!

I had visions of walking round looking like a blackcurrant for the next week but it came off surprisingly easily just with water so i'm hoping it was rubbish weak stuff. lol
