Purple Spray

Alot of people on my yard, after they have picked their horses feet out, give them a spray all over the base of the hoof and the frogs with Purple spray - does anyone know if this actually does any good or not?

We use it like that at work if the horse has got foot rot. Not heard of it being used on a day to day basis otherwise tho

If you google 'equine purple spray' there are some mixed reviews on other forums.

Maybe an expert will be along shortly to offer some hands on experience - but doesn't sound like regular use would be normal.

It's brilliant for thrush .. wouldn't understand the use every day though

I only use it if my horses feet start to get smelly - and it knocks it on the head immediately. Can't see why you would do it on a daily basis unless those horses have thrush and need it?

If you do need to use it I would recommend getting Septi Cleanse from your local Agri merchant. Masses cheaper than the specific equine stuff.

Stockholm tar is so much better, thinned with some vegetable oil it makes a fantastic hoof dressing.

Would the two mix readily?

I find stockhom tar hassle enough as it is!

Stockholm tar mixes easily with linseed oil or even sunflower oil.I use about 4 parts oil to 1 of tar.
