Help!

Rather bad planning has seen the Grand Prix and Purston the same weekend. We are there Saturday and there is a link on BDWP to the Highways agency webiste that details road closures but doesn't really tell me if the route we want to take is open.

As the A43 is closed to through traffic I will have to take A422 to Buckingham and then wanted to take the A422 up to Brackley. This involves a couple of hundred yards on the A43 and I am not sure if that bit is open?

The other (long) option it to take the A421 to the A43 and then come up that way but can you turn onto the A422 if its not open to through traffic!

I have this vision of me (and 100's of other lorries!) driving around the Buckinghamshire countryside trying to get onto a road that doesn't take us to Silverstone!

Any ideas will be rewarded with a rather nice selection of cheeses and some red onion marmalade :)

I think you should be ok around Brackley, think it gets tricky nearer the Syresham exit. Can't believe they're on at the same time, the traffic will be hideous!

I can't believe they're on at the same time :(

Thank you for pointing it out though Jane_Lou, I would never have realised.

I've just done a quick re-route and it seems from our direction we can do A46/M40/A422 and approach from the other direction instead of doing M1/A43 - does anyone know if that would be ok?

Ah balls :( As m_m said, thanks for pointing it out otherwise I think I'd be effing and jeffing come Saturday morning!

I'm coming from Suffolk so think I'll be staying on the A421 off the A14... fun times.

I am sure that is fine, its the A43 that's the problem. I think they make it one way in mornings and then out evenings but the info and maps on the website are not clear unless you have local knowledge.

That would probably be your best route, and allow plenty of time! Alternative would be to come off at J16 of M1, head towards Daventry, then A361 to Banbury (you'd go past Aston) then at the big roundabout, go left and get onto A422, which will hen take you to Purston! A361 isn't the best road, but may save you some miles?!

That will bring you in the same way as we are coming, so it would make more sense to approach up the A422 from Buckingham rather than staying on the A421, its just that bit of round Brackley that worries me!

I did look at that - or J18 past the Eurohub and past ALW but to be honest I hate that route so the thought of having to go even further than ALW doesn't fill me with joy at all! :o

I think I'll stick with the one I mentioned and leave myself lots of extra time. Thank you though.

Bloody F1!

You should be ok around Brackley. The part of the A43 that will be closed is further towards Silverstone. If you look at a map on the A43 there is a stretch of the A43 after a roundabout that leads towards Silverstone, it's about 8 miles between roundabouts. That's where the worst of the traffic will be.

The A43 between Bicester and the start if that long stretch should be reasonably ok

Us locals are getting ready to hibernate for ten days or so.. The influx has started!

A508- A422 that way you dont go round every bloody roundabout in MK very straight forward if you originally planned A43 and for others just come off at J15 M1 instead of J15A its a very straight forward hassle free road a lot would be used to going to MK events that way

I'm running on Saturday in the BE100+ so luckily got fairly late afternoon times. Coming from Hertfordshire so think we're planning on going across towas Hitchin to M1 then off at J15 and A43 I think. I probably wouldn't have entered if I had known the GP was on!

You will have to come off the M1 at 12,13 or 14 or 15 and cut across to the A5 from 12 or straight to the A421 or A422 from 13/14 or 15 and go via Buckingham. I wouldn't have entered if I had realised either.
