pus and crystals in bladder

My daughters 13.0hh 20 yr gelding has just had an endoscopy and his bladder flushed, pus and crystals were found along with a cystitus type infection. blood came back good re liver and kidney, urine culture yet to come back. pony is on long term (4-6 weeks ) antibiotics. his PH level is high in alkaline, I had him in for 24hrs to monitor water intake he only drank 5L less than a 3rd of what he should have, so i put salt in his feed, which he refused to eat so I mixed 1 teaspoon mixed with water in a syringe and gave it to him orally. I have also started vit c to try and reduce the ph. the vet said he should have 30grms of salt twice daily (total of 12 teaspoons). Has anyone had this problem before? if so what did they find effective in lowering the level of ph. is there annyting else that will encourage him to drink more? How offten did it reocurr? any advise would be most wecolme.
 
What about some apple juice in the water, it worked for one of ours when she wasn't drinking enough.
Sorry don't know how to get him to eat the salt, unless you can mask it with something like garlic?

Forgot to say, horses don't just get their hydration from water, alot comes through their food, so you could try with your vets advice changing his diet to include more moisture?

you could try electrolyte powders instead - might be a bit tastier ? (Check with you vet first - it might be that the other components won't help depending on what the problem is)

Horse urine is supposed to be slightly alkaline - all herbivores (veggies!) are. They have a lot of crystals normally too so hopefully your chap hasn't got too far to go to get better.

What was the problem that lead the vets to scope his bladder? Just out of interest.

Is he turned out on grass? All mine have stopped drinking much now the grass has finally come through (saves my arms carting water about!!)- they've reduced their intake to about a third of what it was 3 weeks ago.
