would you rather have a push button horse/pony that you could go out on imediately and win with or a project horse/pony that would take more time to get to the same level?

Project project project... got to love those welsh Ds who fall over their own legs and can't trot in a straight line or tempo :D

Is anything really push button - and surely even the really good horses need (a) a decent rider and (b) time to establish a relationship?

I have only had 1 push button horse and in all honesty I got bored of her so quick, though she was a complete darling :). I like to go out out read my test comments and think thats because of what I and X trainer has done even if I dont get placed its so much more satisfying than getting a first on a horse ready made :D

Project all the way, I like something to keep me on my toes :)

I had the choice of riding someone else' 2 horses, a push button ex-eventer, and a 4 year old just broken in. Got on the ex-eventer and did some jumping and went to a showjumping comp and won. On a hack he never put a foot wrong and never spooked at anything. Rode him for a couple of days then got bored of him and switched to the youngster who was as spooky, unbalanced and unestablished as anything....much more interesting and so much more satisfying when you get it right :)

Agree with above. It was more satisfying to say get the right canter lead on this youngster than win a competition on the ready made horse!

Well some people would call my Welsh Sec D "push-button" but he bucks, has to lead, is either lazy or chomping at the bit and has many issues. I normally have somewhere in between as I'm not really confident enough for a real project but I still like to work on a horse. Tbh I have never met a true "push-button" horse!

I'm getting too old for thinking too much, so push-button all the way these days! :D

Seriously though, I have been spolit with my mare, she is so fabulous, I just think it, and she does it....

To think of going to another horse and actually having to WORK fills me with dread! However, I have just started fittening work on one of my husbands horses, ready for the hunting season, and by 'eck, he's an 'ard nut to crack sometimes!
