Random question, interested to know if anyone else has this scenario and if it was something that just stopped over time or needed something to help it.
Basically my mare when jumping away from home (and sometimes at home) and nearly always at fillers canters up to the fence, then pops literally one extra leg down, sticks nose RIGHT down to jump so head dissappears and then balloons over. I used to think she wasnt going forward enough but have nailed our approach, we will be on a perfect stride and then she right at the last minute checks the fence close up.
So I have videos as examples but this weekend, 85cm course, couple of fences nice steady bouncy canter in, striding bang on (miracle), goes down to take off, then takes one extra step with her right leg so she is RIGHT under the jump, nose dissappears somewhere between knees so eyes are level with fence (quite flexible seeing as she is 17hh+) has a good look (all in the space of 1/100th of a second, no stopping at all) then kind of jumps with head still looking at fence so back comes up, huge leap, head still somewhere between knees staring at spooky green filler, and clears the fence by maybe 2 or 3 ft???
I have tried loose jumping, never does it, some weeks she is fine no problem, other weeks like yesterday its a nightmare, done that course before, seen those fillers before, i even went back in HC and she did it again at the same fences she had been over 5 mins earlier!?
I even started to wonder if her eyes were dodgy!!???
Any ideas?? Or advice??
