Hiya,
So I'm 34 and last September I finally got my beautiful boy, he's at home with me and has a lovely field and stable. I'm not the most confident rider and so mainly do happy hacking and occasionally have lessons in the field at home.
Anyway I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant and although I'm still riding it's not much and I'm struggling (due to all day sickness) with poo picking, and generally horsey duties! So I was wondering about keeping him at home with me and putting him on part loan, problem is I haven't got a clue how to do that and what it involves.
For example how much should I charge? Where would I advertise? Would loaner be expected to help with care which is what I need!
Definately want him at home with me just don't know how to go about this at all, please help x

I would try advertising on Preloved. Not sure how much you could charge as don't know what area you are in? May be worth having a look on Preloved to see what people around you are charging for a similar set up :)

Sorry just seen your final question regarding helping with care. I think that it's expected for a part loaner to help with chores on 'their' days and pay a small financial sum to help with livery/shoes/feed costs.

Preloved, local tack shops and local FB groups are best to advertise.

Given it is the stable management you want help with then I would seriously consider not charging, but offering riding in lieu of poo picking etc.

I personally wouldn't charge - if you find the right type of person they will be doing you a favour tbh - try preloved or any local tack shops.

Given that at some point you won't be riding at all, which will presumably mean the sharer can ride as many days as they like for that period, I would charge, even if it is only a contribution towards shoes.

You could advertise in local tack shops and horsey FB groups/ forums, and also try putting an ad on Horsemart or similar website. Just say what you are looking for, what they would be able to do with the horse, cost of £X per week plus poo picking. It doesn't have to be a large cost, especially as you don't have to pay livery being at home, but I would charge something. Make sure to include things you don't want, ie horse can't move, no children/ no one under 17, anything like that which is relevant to you.

Personally, I'd try asking around locally in the first instance: try the local hunt, Pony Clubs, Riding Clubs, feed places/tack shops - in your local area, plus word of mouth, before going onto Preloved or any of the websites; coz as soon as you do that you'll get every nutcase, fruitloop, psycho, idjut, the lot! Plus the ones who've never ever put a foot in a stirrup but think it'll be fun to try it out on someone else's horse, or they'll be there for a week and then give up on the job.

Don't do it; stay local if you possibly can would be my advice. Far better to have a recommendation from someone who's local IME.

Whereabouts are you OP????
