I only put mine under the bedding and leave the front 1/3 of the stable clear (but I'm fortunate to have a large stable). I prefer not to think of my horse standing at the door on a soggy floor and it's easlier to keep clean this way.

Yup I think it is a really good idea

I put one rubber mat by the door way and the rest of the stable shavings.

If they stand looking out of the box for long periods it's better that they stand on rubber than concrete imo.

I do that too, I used to have it all matted, but I ended up with puddles of pee sitting underneath. Now I mat the front third and have a fairly deep shavings bed in the back 2 thirds. the shaving soak up the pee so the floor isn't too wet and the mats mean he's not standing on concrete to eat his hay and look over his door.

I'm going to have mats at the front of my stables. Because I deep litter I don't see the point in rubber mats under the bed, but I want mats at the front as thats where they stand a lot eating their hay.

I have a fully matter stable however I do see the point in a mat at the front, especially if they stand there a lot. The other thing is it can help with horses prone to scraping the floor as it reduces the noise levels.

They are very good for the front of stables.

It saves work and money if you have the hay and water at the front of the stable. Bedding does not get dripped on, and you don't get waste hay that is mixed in with bedding.

They can only help the horses legs, hard ground is not good, even if it is in the stable.

Yes it does work!

I have 2 rubber mats fitted at the fround of my stable so the first 4 foot is matting and the rest bedding.

My main reason for doing this was my horse had a serious injury and was on box rest for 5 months and i wanted her to have something under foot but still be able to have her ball to roll and her haynet to hang without dropping hay into the bedding.

I use a thin layer of megazorb in the middle where she wees then a full bed ( without banks ) of equisorb and when i sttod on my frineds concrete floor i really felt the cold throught my wellies!!!

this is a picture of mine...

Got them from speegate saddlery fed barn and they are just the bog standard 18 mm thick bobble top and grooves on the underside. They are 35-40 a sheet but becuase they were stupidly heavy my dad cut them in 2 each so i have 4 smallers ones.

They dont move at all and really make a difference. I wouldnt mat my whole stable but they do a great job.

Hehe eaglestone- i used to be an army groom so im very anal when it comes to my bed and my tack, it was a major sin to be below the expected standards

I did this too when my mare was diagnosed with Laminitis. Because she paws the ground in the mornings I didn't want her doing it on the concerete and exacerbating the problem with concussion, so put two rubber mats in front of the door.
