Putting saddle on wet back??

Hiya

Am I right in thinking you shouldn't put a saddle on a wet back? I'm sure I've heard that somewhere??

I'm due to meet my friend this morning to go for a nice hack, it's raining lightly so still ok to ride but Chum is wet because I didn't put a rain sheet on - forgot to check weather forecast though I doubt it was right

I've dried off what I could with towel, put on his Coolex with Amigo L/W over (don't have a stable) - do you think this might do the trick in an hour?

And would a sheepskin numnah be better than a normal one?

Silly mommy, been looking forward to this ride all week

I'm sure it will be fine, just make sure you brush him off when you get back - unless its a monster hack I am sure he won't care (mine don't!!). I am sure he will be dry enough in an hour - you ae much better than me - horse will be going out - wet or not!

Thank you!

I think I'm being paranoid as we have had saddle/back problems so I want him to be as comfortable as possible.

I'm sure he will be fine but thanks for making me feel better

I wouldn't worry at all as long as the back is really clean - only problem with wet is not getting the mud off properly.

Hope it stops raining soon and you can get out for your ride (just about to head out into peeing rain here).

I'm sure he'll be fine too - the only problem with wet backs is if they're muddy - then the grit can cause rubs.
Using a real sheepskin numnah would be best, cotton a close second because they absorb moisture.
Have a nice (damp) hack!

They sweat under their saddles and that isnt a problem"!"! Agree with Shils with regards to saddle cloths though!

Thanks for replies, didn't get to ride as it has been crappy here all day - and I have a new saddle

your horse should be fine as long has he is not soaked or covered in mud mud can cause your saddle to rub and cause some nasty sores the best thing to do is go to a shop by one of those clothes that you by for your kitchen the ones that if you spill every thing it mops it all up nd then it will draw the wet away!
