Putting together a double bridle

Hi,

I am currently "building" a double bridle (well, using a rugby Pelham, rather than a Weymouth and bradoon)

What part of the bit does the slip attach to? Does it particularly matter what part of the bit attaches to the slip... e.g. does it attach to the Weymouth or bradoon? I seem to get mixed answers on the web.

Yes, slip head goes on bradoon rings. I like to buckle it on the off side to minimise buckle clutter

Yep, I put the buckles on the off side, so its even, but I think I put the slip onto the "Weymouth", I will double check tonight

curb bit on the headpiece, bridoon (or the floating ring on a rugby pelham) on the sliphead. The curb is usually the heavier bit of the two so you want that on the wider headpiece for comfort. as above, buckle the sliphead on the offside to even out the bridle hardwear.

The sliphead goes on the bridoon bit (loose ring on rugby pelham), it is usually called a bridoon sliphead which is great for those like me who need help remembering! the sliphead goes under the usual headpiece and fastens to a single cheekpiece on the OFFSIDE of the bridle so that it balances out the number of buckles on each side of the the bridle. This helps to give symmetry and balance to your pony's head in the show ring.
The noseband goes UNDER the sliphead.
THICKER rein is the snaffle rein and goes on the bridoon/snaffle bit,(loose ring on rugby pelham) narrower rein without buckle is the curb rein and goes on the Weymouth/Curb bit.
