Pyometra ...

I think this is the right name for it anyway... I just would like some more information on this illness and the prognosis and recovery rate in horses.

I know a mare which has pus in her Uterus and I was wondering how common this is, what causes it and how likely it is that a horse can overcome it?

Any information much appreciated.

Hmm i've only heard of it in older un-spayed bitches...it's life threatening in them.
The mare may have metritis which is just inflammation of the uterus..(not so serious)? She'd need lots of flushing sessions and extensive antibiotics. In a bitch, they do an emergency spay for pyometra.
How long has the mare been ill, and is she pyrexic (as this indicates a systemic infection).

Thanks, yes it could be metritis as they are flushing the pus out of her, just when I googled the symptoms it came up with Pyometra. She had been off her hay for a while, just eating bits, but she kept her weight well so nothing was suspected. I recently found out that she had been diagnosed with pus in the uterus.
