Q. How many wheelbarrows of bedding (straw and bedmax) does an average stable hold?

A. About 20.

I know this because I removed them all - by myself - today. And my wheelbarrow is big . . . and Kal's stable is a bog-standard 12x12 . . . and he only has banks along two walls.

I'm switching Kal to shavings while he's out 24/7 . . . see no reason to give YO £30/month for straw when he's only in (at most) one night a week . . . and thought I'd take the opportunity to have a bit of a spring clean. So . . . stable completely cleared, swept, de-cobwebbed, rubber matting (walls and floor) washed and disinfected . . . just waiting for the floor to dry so that I can put the Bedmax down . . . probably do that on Friday.

Next time I even think about doing that, someone please talk me out of it - ok?

Now . . . where's the cold beer?

Flippin' 'eck! Are you going to put a flight of stairs in so he can get to his bed?

My stable holds about 8 of straw or 5 of woodshavings. Even when I deep littered some goats for 8 months I didnt end up with 20 barrows at the end

I can only assume you are puny lol :p

Doesn't surprise me, when we cleared our stable the other year we got 18 barrows out and we saved some of the clean from the banks for the new stable. There were two of us doing it though.

LOL. Oddly enough, he didn't need a stepladder . . . and I wasn't deep littering either. I really don't understand how come there was so much . I've ordered 10 bales of Bedmax and was planning on putting about 7 down to start the bed (I do like a deep bed b/c he is a dirty beastie - and he's grey).

Oh, and I only leave a small space by the door - his bed covers the whole floor - if I leave a strip, he either wees and poos on the bare strip (nice, huh?) or drags the clean bedding over there anyway. Perhaps that's why there was so much in there?

A couple of pics of his straw bed before I cleared it out . . .

Oh phew - not just me then :). I did feel wasteful putting so much clean on the muck heap . . . but I'm switching bedding . . .

Looks comfy with just straw but I bet it's nice now... :)

My filly never rolls in a straw bed, only shavings - weird creature.

TallyHo - Kal will chuck himself on the floor every chance he gets - straw, shavings, flax - he's not fussy - the boy just lives to undo all my brushing, etc. and make himself as mucky as possible :).
