Motor has been suffering from a swollen Sheath/Oedema (??) this Summer, which I have always put down to him having to be restricted and not enough movement

However he has been 100% confined to his wood chip paddock for 3 days so far, due to a suspected bout of Laminitis and is on 2 Danilon a day now instead of his normal 1 (for other problems)

However bearing in mind, that he is now not moving too much, I noticed this morning that his Sheath is back to normal

.... so my question is; would the Danilon reduce the swelling/oedema and that it may not be related to his restricted turnout after all!?

Thank you peeps

Well danilon is an antiinflammatory, so if the inflammation was due to inflammation then yes it would.

Thanks LN

the thing is he was already on 1 a day, so the extra boost must have done the trick

ah, cool! maybe it was just not enough, if the danilon is decreased and the inflammation returns, I think that will indicate its inflammation that needs treating! However, this boost of dani may have done the trick!

Can i suggest you get your horses bloods tested for protein deficiancy. My horse has been really porly last year with inflamatory bowel disease which he has now recovered and it started with oedema/swollen sheath. Is it just sheath or abdomen as well?

Thanks your your reply and no it is just confined to his Sheath

Had bloods done a few months ago and have had them done regularly since going down with Cushings, as they offer a Laminitis risk assessment, all was clear then

Will have a look at his protein levels on those and then may well talk to the Vet again, about this
