Don't include 'I just sat on' but more of the lines along 'schooled or hacked, minimum 20 mins?' ect..

I rode 5 today, and it has been years since I've ridden that amount in a day.. I feel my legs aching already!!

I rode all 4 of mine in one afternoon back last year. I hacked 2 & schooled 2 & they all got about 30 mins each & I must admit I was shattered :)

Back in the days when I worked at a riding school/show jumping/hunting yard, I probably regularly rode five or six in a day. But now I regularly ride two, occasionally three in one day. That's more than enough when you also have to muck them all out and turnout/bring in, feed and hay up!

I ride 2 most days but agree with Wagtail it's the chores on top that finish me off especially at the moment with all our mud and now it's at the inbetween stage where it's really sticky :(

Roll on being turned out full time for the summer :D

When I worked at a flat yard I'd ride five lots and then get on a couple of 2yos in the afternoon too. Don't know if the 2yos count or not though as was probably only on them 10/15 mins when we were backing?

So either 5 or 7 depending on how you look at it. And that was everyday. And I mucked out 10+stables as well. I was fit back in those days! Not like now :o

Used to school 5 & hack 1, sometimes 2 everyday when horses were my job, when boss was ill once schooled 9 in a day for a few days, definitely muscle destroying.

About 8 I think.

Starting at around 9am and finishing at about 4pm, hacking, fast work and schooling/jumping.

No wonder I could eat whatever I wanted when I was 19! :)

That sounds like leg numbingly heart poundingly painful!! Total respect!

Should add, that my normal amount is 2, mainly hacking, plus my own perhaps for 20 mins school.

I took a dressage clinic a couple of years ago, and I was riding three school horses plus my own for an hour a day each, for 5 days...

I needed a holiday afterwards to recover lol!

not quite the same as i generally split the day between 2 horses but when i worked at the trekking place i usually rode for about 6 hours a day, sometimes 7 if there was an evening ride, all day everyday for the summer period, loved it but it could explain why i'm slightly bow legged:o

Worked at showjumping yard and in the summer would regularly ride 10 a day. But that was a long time ago, starting at 7am and max of an hour each, with next one saddled and ready to go! Used to finish at 8pm. Christ, its a push to do 3 a day nowadays. . .

when i was at a riding school last year on working livery. it snowed and no one turned up to lessons and only some of the staff made it in so we all got to ride and helped out. i rode mine then 3 riding school horses, flung 2 and lunged one. considering i only rode mine 4 days a week i was shattered. and they were all big horses who look alot of leg work to ride properly as i have to say i was out classed and was riding out of my skin to keep up.

that was the busiest day but for about a week i was riding 2 or 3. also when i say we all got a ride i mean the 2 or 3 staff that turned up and me and a helper.

I miss those days. I used to eat like a (pardon the pun) horse in those days and there wasn't a scrap of fat on me. Office work just isn't the same for fighting the flab! :( :D

I know :(

I remember having whole trays of millionaire shortbread for 'elevenses' and then going home and eating 2 x garlic bread baguettes for lunch and then having enormous dinners followed by gallons of chocolate- every day!!!
And as you say, no effort to stay slim :(

I am still the same size now (10-12) but it is much, much more work to stay this size and I watch what I eat much more closely now.

I am a blubbery size 12 now (meaning very nearly a 14) whereas in those days I was a small 10. I used to eat soo much food. I remember eating four sandwiches, two packets of crisps and some form of cake every lunch, then home for massive dinner cooked by my lovely mum and often washed down with a whole pot of Ben and Jerrys for good measure.

As I was trundling along out hunting at the weekend I came over all misty eyed and wished I could go back to my job with horses. Then I realised that minimum wage really isn't worth it, even if I did look good in my bikini :p

I found the best thing about finishing work with horses, after the money side, was no longer dealing with the permanent hunger! I'm still a skinny but in those days was bony thin & there were never enough hours in the day to eat the 6 meals I craved. The joys of hacking out with a 1kg block of dairy milk & a pack of biscuits mid afternoon before evening stables!

Now the weather is nicer, I look out of the office window and think I could be spending the day riding, but then also remember I struggled to pay for anything when I was working with horses (apart from my copious amounts of food obviously! :))

I am still in the same competition clothes and boots I had when I was 16 and have even had to get a new (smaller) dressage jacket recently so not too unhappy, but I'd rather be able to eat what I want, instead of the strict rations I find myself on now!
