Help! Im looking at a DIY yard close to my home later today. I dont know much about it except its got a floodlit menage (more than I have access to now, so quite a plus point). PLEASE can someone suggest some questions I need to ask when I get there. I just know Im going to forget to ask something. :o

Ask about turnout, are there set times for bring in and turn out, can you see the actual field you'd be using. Is there water in fields, is it lit where you bring them in from?

School, how busy does it get, do many people have lessons (do they get it to themselves when having lessons?) Are outside instructors allowed? Do you have to pay for lights?

How big is the yard, how many horses? Any plans to increase?

Hay, bedding - do they supply, how much, can you see what they offer? Can you get your own in?

Is there someone to pay to see to yours if your on holiday etc?

Hacking, off road riding - what is there?

Storage, where do you keep your stuff?

Other than that, look very closely at everything, do people seem smiley or like they are bit peeved and judging you, do stables look water tight? What is the school surface like, do horses look in good condition etc...

can't thnk of much else, you probably et a good feel for the place once you visit!

That is a lot of questions! My main one would be what kind of fencing do they use. My friends horse was at a yard where he ran through a barbed wire fence, so that would be my main priority.

I think like the last person said, you will get a feel for the place. I'd suggest a second visit at the weekend too so you can see the place when its busier and chat withthe people who are already on livery.

Good luck!

Brilliant! Thanks everyone.

My horse is a bit of a stress head so I guess atmosphere will be important. I make my own hay and store it elsewhere, bringing it down once a week. Ive got my own mats so will need to ask about that and about suitable bedding. And Ive got my own electric fencing if I need it. No way would I let my horse near wire. Ive got loads of stuff so yes storage space will be important. And security. Eeek Im going to feel like an interogator later
