~ quad bike - recommendations? ~

hi, looking into biuying a quad bike that needs to be decently powerful to go up and down hills and streams, any tips on what to look for, or any recommendations on makes much appreciated

is 300c powerful?

Yup a 300cc should be fine, we have one, but make sure you get 4wd and diff lock if poss otherwise you'll if you get stuck you wont get out. Plus if you can get a Honda, expensive but the best you can get! Last literally a life time, know some one whos is about 15/20 years old, been thrashed, trashed, rolled everything and its still going!

Ditto on the Honda - we use big reds at work and they really get a tough time of it but are very reliable.

thank you, is there anything to keep in mind in terms of having attachments, like harrow, roller, trailer or is it one size fits all ?

should be a 50mm tow ball on the bike so should be standard fitting for attachments. Ours are (I think!) 350cc and have an option for 2wd or 4wd, to be honest ours stay in 4wd pretty much all the time.
OH just informs me our big reds were years ago and we now have a Foreman which are 500cc so I stand corrected!

My recommendation would be old (you tend to be able to keep them going for ever) and then paint it dayglo pink as they are like magnets for petty theives!!

We have a 500cc Honda
Advised to get the green one so it can't be seen as well by thieves.
The 300cc are very plasticy tho. If you can afford the 500 cc it's a much better bike

I have a Honda Foreman 500cc hydrostatic automatic 4x4 and it is actually amazing!
We have a steep hill and it will pull a fair size trailer full to the brim of poo but it does moan a bit so if you can afford a 500cc rather than a 350cc def go for the bigger engine

Do you get Arctic Cats in the UK? Perhaps not since I have never seen them mentioned. We have a 400 and it is brilliant, I use it on the farm for almost everything except ploughing and cutting hay, especially useful for shifting the horse trailers about rather than use the truck.

I am not up on UK attachments but ours takes a variety of ball hitches, plus pins hitches, I can pull everything around with a change of hitch. I love my Quadly.

Honda, and Kawasaki both good. If you really need 4wd for safety then get one with 4wd. If your land is flat you would be better getting a more powerful 2wd one. There is less to wear and they turn a lot tighter in confined spaces. DO NOT buy anything cheap and Chinese.
