I recently bought a Mark Todd rug which within 2 weeks was totally ruined, ripped to bits, buckles broken, piping pulled out, neck cover detached etc...

I've never had a rug fall apart so quickly! the last rug lasted 2 years on the same horse, same field etc..

and I know he didn't get tangled up on anything as the damage was gradual over a couple of weeks, getting worse every day.

Has anyone else had quality issues with Mark Todd Rugs?

Westgate EFI are refusing to refund my money and i'm trying to find out if i'm alone in this!

Our little guy has a MT with neck & it completely fell to pieces in the space of a month. It's sat in the tack room as I can't bear to throw it away but its so ripped I don't think we can even use for for patching his other rugs :( I wouldn't buy MT again, especially as my lovely MT winter boots fell to pieces in a very short time as well..! Pony's new rug is a Shires Tempest, which we bought on sale very cheap & it's fab. Not so much as a single rip several weeks in - highly recommend if you're looking for a replacement. :)

Sorry, never had a problem with them and I have loads as they're on of the few that are adjustable enough for Genie's neck and shoulders.

I've got older ones which are excellent and still going strong but bought an under rug last winter which they advertised (still are) that it fits under and attaches to the rug on too -it doesn't in any shape or form !!

Also bought a lw JHL which managed to rip from front to back, the piping and the lining, it lasted a few days !! Never had a rug rip so badly but never bothered contacting them after the liner incident which took them ages to get back to me, in the end they said they hadn't tested the under rugs but basically assumed they would fit ........

Had many over the years - only damage I've ever had is perfectly reasonable given what my cob did to it  One lasted 12 years before I finally replaced it, rest have been going for 2-5 years and are all fine.

This winter I bought a MT rug for the first time and have to say that I am very impressed! Doesn't move, keeps him warm and dry, fits really well and *touch wood* not one tiny scap of damage. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

One of my youngsters has an MT rug and has worn it all winter and play fighting with my other youngster, not a mark in sight, just mud. Really pleased with it.

I bought a MT Autumner this year and it was trashed within a few days. I spoke to the rep (we are retailers of WEFI) and I was refunded, as I think he'd had the same problems himself! Back to Weatherbeeta then, although I'm currently impressed with Rhinegold...

I've bought 2 as a good fit on little pony. No problems with ripping but found the buckles to be very poor quality.

I bought a MT fly rug for my boy and TBH it seemed to last longer than any other fly-rug I've used.

However...... whilst not related to OP's original question. I did buy a pair of MT breeches a year or two back. Having already got a pair in this particular range I didn't bother to try them on in the shop, got home and put them on - only to discover that for some reason one leg was noticeably tighter around the knee than the other one.

So I got out a tape measure: there was a difference of 2cm in the circumference around the knee!! Crazy or what. So I took them back to the shop, who were a bit sniffy about it until I got my tape measure out and proved it.

Don't currently have any MT rugs other than the ancient fly-rug which is now in tatters and will be used as a spare for repairs.

Oldie pony (40ish) has lived in his this year despite not being rugged for the last few years. His horsey friends in the field have done their best to trash it but it has survived. It is also the only rug apart from his 14 year old Rambo Wug that has not rubbed his shoulders. I rate the MT heavyweight combo very highly.
