Has anyone had this done? I'm considering having the stuff my mare eats tested. Only problem is I don't know where to start!
Any ideas on cost?
Places that will do it?
How I go about getting a sample?
Interpreting the results? What is good?

I'm thinking of doing in for a number of reasons. My mare has constant grass glands, burning the grass where she wees, also has lymphedema issues. My vet has indicated that these could all be related to protein levels. Secondly, we are forced to buy forage of the yard (in contract) and I want to know what I'm feeding.

I used Spillers several years ago and it was £25. Don't know if they still do it but as I live local I took some up on a Saturday morning and had the results by Tues.

Always used D&H. If you phone up the nutrionists they will give you the freebie postal address to send samples to. All you do i put a small handful in a couple of plastic bags (I usually go mid-bale) and post off to them.

I used to say I was looking for haylage to feed TB stallion, broodmares and foals and they would tell me whether it was suitable or not, not just for them but for my other horses in the yard at the time.

Don't know whether they charge or not now, but I've never paid - but have been a customer of D&H for many many years and they deliver direct to me.

I used to work as a Lab Tech in R&D for a major feed company. We usually requested the sample to be taken from the middle of the bale as stated above and from multiple bales if possible.
