Quantocks - looking for ideas on

Evening all!

I am being treated to my first child and horse free night away in ages tomorrow night and am ridiculously excited!! We only live an hour away (max) but want to make the most of every second of our "stay" at Oare, right on the edge of Exmoor/Quantocks (Lorna Doone valley) and above Porlock. Know Exmoor fairly well but NOTHING about the Quantocks, other than vague recollections from time spent with Philip Hobbs as a just left school teenager!!

Will be with relatively new man, so if anyone can suggest good views/walks/pubs/villages to visit I would be forever grateful...as will make it even more fun and make me look an impressive source of knowledge he he!! Thank you for any ideas you lovely people may have

Depends what you want, but the views from the Brendons, looking across the valley towards the Quantocks, is amazing, the Rising Sun at Bagborough used to be good http://risingsuninn.info/ as did the New Inn at Halse, but I haven't been there in ages. Loads of nice walks on the Quantocks, just drive up, find a car park and go and explore! Nether Stowey has an interesting history. Sure someone else will be along with more suggestions.

I used to live in Bishops Lydeard, wish I still did, it's lovely round there.

When did you last go there? It used to be very good, but I was really disappointed the last time and haven't been there since.

I hope they have improved again, as it's a lovely place to go.

out of interest how long ago where you at Philip Hobbs? i love Lorna doone valley. and Lynmouth/Lynton is gorgous. i used to live in Bicknoller near Wiliton right on the foot of the Quantocks. lovely area
