Quarter Horse UK Equivalent?

Hi all, current I only have a arab x cob yearling colt but wonder if you guys here have something similiar in build and ability to the American QH. I'm talking sturdy but tall, strong and suitable for mountain riding/hacking out and can carry western tack without flinching (and a 9.5stone rider, as per a previous thread LOL).

I don't think Mo would appreciate being under a western saddle *sigh*.

Edit to add: Oh and common as muck to avoid the panick attack inducing pricetag a QH seems to have with it over here!

Lots of taller Welsh Cobs or even Welsh Cob x TBs that would have substance, ability and good looks.

You might find something here http://www.aqha.uk.com/content/blogsection/4/26/ There are some nice part breds out there, they don't tend to command the QH price tag. Having said that, most breeds are capable of going western. If you'd like to see some and can make it to Warwickshire Ag College at Moreton Morrell on 27th to 29th August the Western Equestrian Society have their Championship Show including Appaloosa and Paint Horse classes. WES is an all breed sociey, you never know, you might even find something there.

tbh an arabxcob would be fine carrying a western saddle, Arabs are often used for western acticivies and have no problems, and the cob blood will have made him sturdier.

Echo this. This is a 2 year old Quarab (50/50 arab,QH) standing 14.2 now and a chunk of a girl. Same sort of build as I would expect an arab/cob to make.

Or look at the American Paint Horses that are here, gaining popularity the whole time. There are lots of QH farms here too now. I would also look at the Curlies (Bashkir Curly Coats) I looked at some in North Wales and the stallion looked identical to a QH with only minimal curl to his coat. They are really tough and live out all year round and are as strong as Oxen. There are some great websites out there and lots of horses looking for homes!
