Struggling to find hay at the moment and lots of people have told me to feed mine half hay half straw. But Mysti used to get colic from eating her straw bed so thats just not going to be possible! Honey can have a mix of both but shes so fussy no doubt she'l leave the straw and sulk

So is there anything else i can feed instead to 2 natives that both didnt keep weight well last winter (but have had their teeth done since) ???

I was thinking more Hi-fi light so its not extra calories as such. But not sure how much extra i should be giving them to replace hay partially.

So last winter i had mysti (welsh a) on half scoop of hi-fi and 1/4 scoop of nuts with oil & garlic. And Honey (welsh d x) on scoop and a half of molli chaff and 3/4 scoop of nuts with oil and garlic and they both had 10lb haynets everynight and kept their weight ok and looked fab during the winter, but im getting concerned now as they havent even got fat this summer and theyve had access to grass and hay and still being fed a small feed daily

Sorry for rambling! :D Basicly the question is what can i feed as a hay replacer apart from straw?

We use allen + page fast fibre as a hay replacer, can't get over how good it is and how much it helped a 36yr veteran last winter. It doesn't cost too much and they love it. You can also mix it with your chaff etc xx

We have used graze-on as a hay replacer for an old lady who wasn't doing too well on hay (this is at the same time as others are being fed hay and staw mix as they can get fat looking at grass!) Not sure of cost though

by main feed do you mean as a hay replacer or main hard feed? Looking for a cheap but good hard feed for a 13.1 welsh and a 14 cob, they will be getting hay as well, was thinking FF and chaff?

Using it as a hay replacer but you could definately use it as a main feed with chaff. Good for fatties also, think we will be using it for the new shirex along with a feed balancer xx
