Question about Microchipping

Hi there, I was just wondering if there's a national/international database of microchipped horses? I have two horses, both chipped but if they got stolen (god forbid!), how would they get returned to me if they were scanned?
I have no idea how to change the owners address to mine. One horse is French & his passport is in French, the other has an English passport but I have no idea of where to apply to change the registration address for each horse. I wouldn't want them returned to their previous owners/breeders!

Yes! Have you had them scanned and got the numbers?
In the uk its registered once your vet sends off the paperwork to the microchip company they use.
 
I'm not sure about the FRench one but the English one you will need to send to the society the passport/horse is registered with (this is normally plastered on the front of the passport). For a fee, they amend the ownership details for you and update the records.
