I've been looking at the Wainwrights Trays for my two, I currently feed Skinners F&T Duck & Rice, but to be honest, they pick at it, and will sometimes go whole days without eating hardly anything (I leave it down for 15 minutes, if its not eaten i pick it back up again) they are fed twice a day (7am and 7pm) - which I dont actually have a problem with, I guess if they're hungry, they'll eat it... however they eat the wainwrights trays with gusto when they've had one as a 'treat' (cant say i blame them, looks far tastier that F&T)

However, when doing a bit of research, I've noticed there's a massive difference in the volumes you feed between wainwrights and naturediet... and the composition of them doesnt look all that different (although happy to be told otherwise)...

I have Millie (about 4.5kilos) and Suzy (21.8 kilos) - both weighed about 3 weeks ago, their weights dont tend to fluctuate much at all.

For Wainwrights I could get away with feeding 1 tray a day and covering both of them according to their feeding instructions (the trays are 395g):

5-12kg dogs - 1/4 to 1/3 of a tray (so based on Millie's weight 1/4 of a tray for her)
12-25kg dogs - 1/3 to 3/4 of a tray (again based on Suzy's weight 3/4 of a tray for her)

However, for Nature diet (these trays are 390g):

5-12kg dogs - 200g-590g - (based on Millie's weight 200g - about 1/2 tray)
12-25kg dogs - 590g-1000g (based on Suzy's weight feeding ~900g 2 and a bit trays)

So you can see Nature diet would require me to feed about 3 trays a day to the two of them....

For those that feed Wainwrights, how much do you feed? Having bought one yesterday and fed according to the instructions, it didnt seem very much at all across two feeds, but equally they didnt look like they were starving hungry at any point - if I can feed them both on 1 tray a day, then perfect, definitely go for it, as if nothing else, they're far easier to store than having a bin full of dry food in the house...!

Most of the Naturediet packs apart from the light & fish ones are more nutritious so you would not need to feed more.

They are probably calculating calorific requirements for a working dog as opposed to P@H looking at pet dogs.

Why not feed one pack a day and mix in some of the Skinners if they need a little more?

If you look at a can of Chappie it will suggest a cocker needs 2 - 3 tins a day. Few cockers need more than half - 3/4 of a tin.

I was feeding mine at 33kg one tray a day as per guidelines, thinking training treat etc like cheese would bump this up. He lost weight, which I expected after the transition from the rescue centre, but now seem too slim.

I have bought some wainwrights biscuits, and he will now be getting some biscuits in the morning, a tray and biscuits in the evening as well as additional treats such as cheeses and hotdogs :)

Ozzie (JRT) has half a small pouch of Wainwrights with a small handful of Wainwright kibble with it.

Thinking of putting him on trays and dropping the kibble, but not sure I will get through the tray quick enough. Will definitely take at least 2 days to get through a tray maybe more need to check.

Have to say he has never looked better since I switched to Wainwrights.

Wainwrights contains more fibre than Naturediet. You will contain more money if you feed Wainwrights!

I feed my 23kg springer about three quarters of a tray if he is in one of his refusing raw phases. I go by eye as opposed to feeding guides as every dog is different re exercise etc.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to pop over to P@H and pick up one of the £8.99 boxes of 12 and see how we get on... going to try them on one tray a day for both of them and play it by ear, neither are particularly food oriented and neither have ever had fluctuating weight, so hoping it will be clear very quickly if its not enougj. I'm not as concerned about Millie as she is so teeny tiny the amounts look right for her, its Suzy I'll be watching more closely...

Hi I don’t know if it’s changed in the last two years but as far as I’m aware the Wainwrights trays are not made by the same company as Nature Diet. I used to work for the company that made the trays for Wainwright.

Think they still have their offer of 2 boxes of 12 for £15 ;)

aparently not according to someone at work i was just talking to...:( they've gone all high and mighty on me, even though it was only a few months ago i pursuaded them to stop feeding Bakers!! aparently now i'm a terrible owner for not considering wainwrights before.....
