Hello knowledgeable folks.... I have just become the proud owner of 4 bottles of Avon Skin So Soft as I have read about no end of ways it is good on horses. Unfortunately, being half senile, I can't remember any of the things it is meant to be good at / for. Can anyone help tell me why I bought it please?!! Thank you.....

good for keeping flies off! Great stuff against biting midges and horseflies for humans too. Am sure there are a host of other uses though!

My understanding was that it makes the hair shaft slippery and thus difficult for SI midges to settle/crawl down to the skin.

Which SSS did you buy? There are different ones on the market. If you got the ORIGINAL SSS, it can be used for a myriad of things, one of which is to repel flies and mozzies. Go to beckysbiz.com/skinsosoft.htm and you'll find of list of 104 things you can do with SSS. Numbers 81 and 82 will tell you how to use it on your horses and dogs.

Are you using it neat or diluted? I was told to use it neat to repel midges and mozzies. It works for me and I'm a mozzie magnet.

I tried it a few years ago-neat (after patch testing-please patch test!). It has a slight barrier effect due to the consistency but it doesn't work against the bugs I mentioned, I have no idea if it repels normal flies.

Ive used it up here and it certainly kept the biting beasties, midgies included off of us and our horses, although if yoire on the west coast the midgies there seem to be almost terminator like
