Lantinus is a superb horse, and yes he is by Landkonig.
Whilst the product is great, and let's not forget that the damsire is Argentinus, the sire doesn't have a single other product in the top 2500 jumping horses in the world (WBFSH 2007 rankings).
As British breeders, surely we are trying to avoid "freak" breeding which is what has set us back centuries in sport horse breeding.
Also, don't forget that the horse was very very well prepared prior to his expensive arrival at Denis's yard.
This takes nothing away from Lantinus, he's amazing.
Ken isn't saying Argentinus offspring are not proven, rather the opposite in that because Lantius has him as a damsire this has helped him more than having Land??? as a sire.
i didnt think ken was questioning the argentinus side of the breeding i thought he was questioning the fact that the sire ony had Lantinus in the top 2500 jumping horses.
Ahh ok sorry - was a bit worried there for a bit as it seemed he was talking about Argentinus who is definitely not unproven!! Was especially confused as he represents Air Jordan Z himself!
Argentinus was ranked in the top ten for about five or six years, his "provenness" is legendary. The point I was making was that I suspect that Argentinus/the motherline had more to do with the outcome than Landkönig.
Sorry been working all day so couldn't reply earlier.
Absolutely fascinating answers.
I don't know the history of the horse or the circumstances of his arrival with his present rider, just thought he looked one of the best in the competition.
Big ask i know, but is anyone knowledgeable enough to give us a run down on the breeding of the individuals jumping on thurs - horse not riders!!
( will post this as a new question too as this might get missed)
