Hi I am looking to adopt another malamutes and was sent some details of a female who looks like she could suit us, her information includes her pedigree and after the registered names there are the letters AJ2 in brackets for her AH3 for her dad and AG2 for her mum just wondered if anyone could tell me what these mean.

Hi, they are the numbers of the Kennel Club Breed Supplement editions in which she, her dad and her mum were respectively registered.

The KCBS is published quarterly with lists of all new registrations and each edition has the letters which denote that year - I've been out of the pedigree world for a while so not sure what we're up to for 2014 - but say for argument's sake that AJ was the notation for 2010, it would mean this bitch was registered with the KC and her registration published in the second edition of 2010. In 2011 the letters would change to AK, in 2012 to AL and so on. If you had a copy of KCBS AJ2 you would be able to look through the lists of malamute registrations and see this dog's name.

Hope that makes sense.
