I'm planning on attending my first hunt on the 23rd as its OJD and have been recommended this hunt by people at the yard, I am unsure as to the attire though - this is from the website -

DRESS

Hound exercising - hacking jackets
2/3 hours hack, steady pace - some optional jumping possible
Hunting - formal dress - black or (blue for ladies) jackets, white stock
Most lines do not exceed 3ft 6ins
OJD - Optional Jumping Day

I already own a Black Caldene show jacket, but from the sounds of this I should get a get a navy blue one? or is a Blue tweed ok?

Is buying a new jacket strictly necessary, I don't want to make a bad impression on my first attendance but the credit crunch is crunchy!

Alternatively if anyone is looking to sell something suitable in a size 12 PM me!

Thanks everyone

Its the 23rd - a week on sunday, as its just off the A614 so I can hack over.

Thanks for that, I would splash the cash If I had to, but....

I will be the one with both green and red ribbons lurking at the back trying to look invisible!

It is black for men or black & blue for women! Thats where the confusion is! Or you could even go out in hacking jacket if you didn't have a black or blue jacket!
Most important bit is to enjoy!

You will be fine in black with a white stock if you don't have navy with the Readyfield, if you are doing the Optional Jumping the Master Fred Hibbert will lead you - and have you jumping! You will have a great day :)

Thanks StinkerStonkersmum

My lovely mare is more than capable of 3'6 and on a good day so am I (with my eyes shut on a horse I trust) but unfortunately not together! We tend to part company on a regular basis when jumping! So after a first painful month togther we have settled into schooling on the flat and hacking out for the last 2/3 months.
Until I get a velcro saddle and bum I think it may have to stay that way!

As long as you're smart you will be fine. Most people tend to go out in black jackets, beige breeches and long black boots so you will be fine.
I was looking at the dates today and was tempted to go out on the 23rd but not sure of transport. If I go i'll be on a friends horse who can be a bu*ger for stopping if having an off day so i'll be the one on the gangly bay gelding swearing quietly (if a bad day loudly) at the back ;-)
Have a great day, they're a good friendly bunch. As StinkerStonkersMum has said, get yourself at the back with Fred's team and he'll see you right. He'll divert you when there's a jumping section coming up and usually by the end even the biggest non-jumper will have jumped a 2" fence and come out grinning :O)

I always go in a hacking jacket. You will be fine as long as you are smart.

The 23rd is Optional Jumping so you will be ok.

I will look out for you, im going with my husband - it will be his second time out. He will be on the cob galloping arounddddd.. hehe.

Well depending on weather i'm def hoping to go. Nina - what's your mare look like, will keep an eye out and shout hello if i spot you. Watch me go and say hello to the wrong people ;O) I'll be on a big black gelding with a friend who's on a smaller black gelding. Mine will be the one with his ears as far in my face as possible probably.
I'll probably be lurking on the outskirts or towards the back i'd imagine as the horse i'm on hasn't been out this season and can be a bit of a sod with jumping if he's in a bad mood so will probably be trying to get a bit of space incase he starts stopping. Apologise for swearing beforehand :)

Midlander
She is 15.2 MW, dark brown with slanty white stripe, usually with purple boots and saddle pad. Will be with a more experienced friend on a 14.2 chestnut gelding.
Had a shock yesterday went to ask YM to get her clipped ready but we found out that when she was sold on to them last jan, previous owner had said she needed to be sedated for clippping
The 'clipping lady' is coming tue and we are going to give it a try, I only wanted neck and belly to make her more comfortable, or maybe or low trace, as she does live out, but if she goes mental, we'll have to get vet out and splash more cash :(
Spose I should have thought of this already as she is not the most mentally stable of animals anyway, but generally is excellent in the stable
Love her and hate her all in one day!
