Question for TheFarrier

My farrier is due in the next couple of weeks and while i'm waiting i have a quick Q for you? I'm not concerned but can you tell me why the soles of my horses feets have started flaking? Thankies

I can I think. It's normal, just weather, time of year... all 3 of mine are losing a bit of sole, one more than the others.

Thanks, it just seemed a bit strange as it started all of a sudden and his feet havent done it before. Ahh well just me being a paranoid mummy!

I read your post earlier and was going to reply that it is a natural exfoliation process (my horse had it last year and my farrier explained it to me) however I was worried I might get shot down on here for not recognising a major sign in some hideous illness- as can sometimes happen when people are bored on a Sunday night

I am glad someone else has asked this questions as everytime I pick my horses feet out some of her sole comes off too.

I was getting really worried, didn't know if this was noraml or not.

Its nutural exfoliation and unless it smells like thrush then i really wouldnt be to concerned.

Thanks for that guys! Like i say wasnt worried just not something thats happened to him since i've had him. Nope feet just smell of poo where he keeps standing in it. Has the whole field to stand but always stands on a pile of poo! great...
