If a mare was spooky because of hormonal problems would the problem neccessarly come and go over the summer or could it possibly be constant? My mare has been spooking continously since April and i can't seem to find out why (all usual checks done) Running out of ideas.

What do you mean by spooking DM? Do you mean out on hacks or just generally a nervous wreck? I suppose it could be hormone related but if it's a complete change of character, I'd be looking for changes in her environment/life eg a new yard, field, feed, horses, old friends gone, tack, rider, turnout regime, stable. Even the sheep in the next door field or someone building a new house nearby could make an insecure horse anxious. Try to stand back and pretend to be your horse and think how she might feel as a horse about things in her life. Good luck Sherlock! x

She's spooky on hacks although she's just as bad inhand as when i'm on board. Started as soon as i changed her food in April (no other changes) but she's only been plain hifi all summer but spooking has continued.

I saw an old thread on here the other day which said that someones hormonal horse was spooky so i thought it was worth asking, think i'll try Global Herbs Frisky Mare and see if it makes any difference although i won't hold my breath.

Thanks for the reply
