Those of you with a few horses what do you do about insurance, do you have them all insured seperatly or not at all...

at the moment i have 2 ponies and a horse that are all insured, but as we have recently moved to a house with land and stables I am thinking of either buying in some youngsters to bring on and sell or getting a couple of welsh mares to breed from,

so the question is what to do about insurance for 5/6 ponies..thanks

I insure 3rd party thru BHS and stick the money I would have spent on premiums in a bank account... I'm up this way but I *could* afford to fork out for colic surgery if I had to...

In found with my 6 dogs it was better to stick the premiums in a bank account and now we do that with the horses too.

In 7 years with the dogs we have had vet bills of perhaps £600 and are well up on the deal. We have three ponies and now put the equivalent of the premiums in the dog account too. Hopefully we will never need it but it has built up into a nice pot over the years so should cover most eventualities - as long as they don't all need treatment at once!

I have 6 horses and i don't have any of them insured for vets fees. I have public liability insurance for them and then any vets bills that need paying are paid. We got fed up of paying over 2k in premiums each year then having to quibble with insurance companies on the odd occasion we needed to make a claim. I have found its far easier now (for us) that they are no longer insured.

I have three horses at the moment and over the past 7 years have bought and sold various animals, never have insured any apart from the BHS gold which gives me 3rd party liability. I had one accident which cost about 400.00 other than that nothing until now one of my youngsters has sarcoids so that will be costly but overall I must be up.

Public liability is under the Farm insurance. No individual insurance

I have a floating population of horses, in the past two weeks I have bought 12 new horses in, most have already gone out to clients. I'd go bananas if I tried to insure everything that comes through the barn.
