Hi guys

I was being a nosey cow and scanning adverts (rather than revising! ahem......)

saw this ad though
http://www.adhorse.co.uk/horseforsale_26331.html

and just thought WOW! really REALLY nice!

does this look like a pure welsh lad to you? if so, how would you imagine he would do showing? and would a 5ft10 girl (me) look to big on him?

Not gonna get him (unfort!) as I have no money and am at uni! but god if he was for sale in 2 years when i graduate..........hm............

just wondering on opinions

thats what i thought on the price i was like really?!!! he is ideal for what i want for when i graduate! i was like DAMN MY COURSE BEING 5 YEARS!!!!! lol

He looks a little fine for my liking - especially as Fronarth & Derwen (in particular) lines tend to be a bit chunkier. He's only 5 and quite tall so he's probably grown upwards first and will fill out later. He's handsome though!

what a shame, he's a good height too top of the sec D category i think, don't know if that would affect showing potential?

Thats the danger of looking at adverts when you can't buy he he I do it all the time, only problem is i'm either looking for husbands for my 3 yr old who i don't want to breed from until she's 8 or on project horses cos i'm a sucker for a sad story!

Agree he would probably fill out but i have noticed alot of sec D's looking finer??? maybe just me!

I would say you would look fine on him but i have no idea about how he would do in showing as m&m showing is all just what the judge likes on the day whether it is fine or cobby etc

I'm 5'11 and ride a 15.2 welshie - don't look too tall or big on him, but mine is built like the proverbial brick house!

Things I would be wary of with that advert are to check his back (the rider's position is awful, and if he has been ridden regularly like that I would worry about the strain on his back). I would like to see a confirmation shot, which is missing, so I would wonder why there isn't one (is it omitted because they preferred the others or because they don't want you to notice something?) and finally I think his head is a little big & coarse for showing, and that is the problem you can get with a bigger section D - height wise you shouldn't be penalised showing him, but the taller they are the more they can lose their pony characteristics, as has happened here with his head.

Essay over

naturally, i like essays! u learn lots from them!

Im interested as if I cudnt get a show hunter (which are the kind of horses I like) id get a show cob or MandM me thinks

I second the comment here about him being quite fine for derwen and fronarth lines, that is some very lovely breeding, some of the best lines in there imho, he does have lovely action, but i agree he is fine, perhaps he will fill out more

hes got nice action and 'desirable' bloodlines. However, for showing he is a little long in the back and he's what we call a 'working' cob which means he is 'ganglier' than the 'showing' cob which has the traits of short back, short legs, dishy head and built like a brick if you know what i mean. This chap a 'working' cob is more suited to allrounder activity e.g WH, jumping and dressage. But as people have been saying he is still young and will take another year or so to properly fill out so who knows?

I'm going to go against the grain...I don't really like it as a welsh, like cilsane said its not got the best head and it looks too fine for showing in breed classes, also without a conformation shot its difficult to tell but it doesn't look to be very deep through the girth either, which I think D's should always have.

I would prefer it for a spot of dressage than showing.

He's lovely but not what I like in a Section D.....I personally prefer the old fashion types, 14.2 ish, nice head, short back and very stocky. In saying that, my Nebo gelding is 15.3 without shoes and he is what I call coarse with a big head. I always said that I would have to stick his breed cert on his bum if I wanted to show him

just to prove he is purebred.

I also saw a massive section D at a show a few weeks ago...easily over 16hh! Very nice horse but massive...

Not my thing. Too fine. I prefer them to be chunkier and smaller, with prettier heads. Nebo lines are usually more chunky and typey than that one.

Also hate the way they are working him in the pic - head pulled in, makes him look like he has a dipped back, and it ruins that nice Welshy trot. He'll be nice when he's muscled up properly with correct work.

I mostly agree with tbc, the first thing I thought was his head then his lack of depth through the girth,

altogther everything seems a bit long, big and gangly. (coming from a person with a short stocky one who is far from perfect!)
