consistently about 65% + but it depends on the judge and the rest of the class! Would want the percentage and to be in the top 20-30% of the class because one nice judge may give you 65% but you could be last with the winner on 80% on the other hand you may get 65% in the next test with a harsh judge and win the class by miles!
But generally especially at affiliated which is more consistent with its judging I would want to be happily scoring 65%+
I dont think I would really be that worried about % at prelim being the indicator that i needed to move up, because prelim is only really about walk, trot, canter and halt. I would want to be sure that my medium work was established and my horse had enough balance to ride the tighter circles and the trickier movements with ease. If so I would move up to novice.
I wouldnt worry about percentages. I would move up when I felt my horse was ready and could cope with all the movements.
Take a look at some of the novice tests and ride the movements at home.
Hi, I thought about you in Sun and looked for a name like Natalie doing two elems. I found someone doing two on Sun so suspect that was you but left before your time. How were yours?
I competed on Sat and my friend on Sun so we got to have a groom each on our non-competing day which was nice. I did two nov's, cant remember the exact score but it was about 65.88?% in one and a really shoddy 63.33?% in my second one. I ended up 2nd and 3rd but won £20 for the higher score because I was second overall. So pretty pleased.
My pal won both her prelim and nov classes but she was 'training' in her nov because she doenst want any points so she can compete at RC qualifiers.
Next step music at Willerby on 23rd - still need to edit it all though.
Echo the others, don't worry about prelim % and just go for Novice. Once you are doing the level you will become more established IMO. Wont do you any harm at all.
I came 2nd in both the elementries, got 64.64 in E57 and 62. something% in E43. Ended up shouting at someone working in, twice, as she kept riding straight into me and scaring poor Gin
I just need to sort out the canter as she doesnt want to come as round as she should be!
I too came home with £20!
Have you qualified for the regionals? Good luck with your music.
as others have said alot of horses will do better % wise at novice than prelim , mine certainly did
we did our second elemenatary yesterday & scored 66.4% , higher than our novice score , we also scored higher in our first elem than we did in the novice on the same day
your intructor should be able to help you assess whether your horse is working the elementary stuff well enough to do ok competetively
We've only done a few training prelims (which went well), but are working far above that at home, and have another 4 prelims lined up before we'll consider novice so I'll see how they go first!
