Well...

I was looking at a show schedual a min ago and i was wondering whether my boy could be ridden in any of these...

Ridden Hunter
Riding Horse
Ridden Cob

I have only ever competed him sj so i dont know what he would be like having the judge ride him im not very sure :S

I have not done many competitions so i wasnt sure if i should wait untill i have taken him out to more shows and waited a while or just give it a go and hope for the best.

Any comments on these show events would be great as i have noooo clue hehe.

Also....can i do these clases in a synthetic saddle or will i be marked down..?

Thanks

Another one as clueless as me LOL! Atleast Im not alone ha ha ha
We all start somewhere. Its quite a lot of hassle isn't it! After this season Im not going to show.

Ye is the grey in the picture. . .

Im clueless that is for sure

I just thought i would try something new :S might be interesting

Everyone has to start somewhere! I say good on the both of you from asking and having a go!

Its a bit of a strange world this showing world, it says ridding cob but a Welsh cob turned out as such doesn't qualify...a hunter is not a horse that hunts, a riding horse is not a horse that you ride etc..its all very daft!

Right then, lets see...

Too much feather for hunter and too much bone for riding horse, so cross those both off your list.

If its a local level unaffiliated show I reckon you could go for ridden cob, although you'd be better off hogged, but at local level they'll probably lump show cobs with traditionals! Also if there is an M&M class (Mountain and Moorland), so long as is states they don't have to be registered you could do that too

that help?

I took Bear in to the ridden cob at our little local show last year and he looked like a puny little weed compared to the others, I think if had been hogged/trimmed he would have looked OK but I like hair too much!

Definately do M+M if you can!
Or novice working hunter?

Ridden Cob, definitely.

Either go for the full hairy look, with all mane and feather, or hog and trim feather completely. The latter is usually more correct, depending on what type your horse is. As said, at a local show they usually lump the hairies in with the show cobs.

M&M is a no-no unless he actually is one of the nine recognised M&M breeds.

I think that has now put me of...

Recently had feathers taken of and mane pulled....hasnt got a big enough neck yet to have it hogged of but i am planning to...

So he couldnt go in as a traditional cob as he has a very pulled mane and no feathers so im stuck...great!!

I shall stick to not doing any ridden classes as it seems my boy is not suitable for any

Oh and forgot to say you'll be fine with a synthetic saddle if its a local show

If you do M&M, you should wear a tweed jacket, cream or white shirt, tie that compliments jacket colour. Cream or canary jods, and long boots if your adult, joddy boots if your younger or the beastie is under 14.2

No no no, that's fine! Plait his mane instead of hogging

give his legs a final trim a few days before the show so they're nice and tidy and either plait or pull his tail too. Proper show cob material.

OOO some good news on the saddle then wooop woop

have you got a side on pictue of your horse? it is one thing that can only be judged from a side on picture.

Please do not put him in the M&M, i show M&M's and it realy does annoy alot of the M&M people that just because it is hairy people put it in an M&M class, if it isnt one of the 9 breeds (be it registered or not) then it isnt an M&M.

Ok i think i will give

Ridden cob

a go....sound like an idea..?

I will plait him up and give him a trim..

He has put on quite a bit of conditin recently since that picture has been taken. He is only young and i am taking it slow with him so the condition will come..is alot better since i had him.

I was never intending on M&M so dont worry

thanks for all your help! i would have been stuck without you lot on the showing side of things hehe

a cob needs to have a lot of bone and bulid i reckon to go for the cob class is that pic of you at oakwood. isnt there any one at your yard you an get an opion off its hard to tell from a pic.
