Question re. saddle sizing

Could anyone tell me what width a saddle that measure 8ins D ring to D ring would equate to? i.e. Medium, Medium/Wide, Wide etc?

As far as I know, sizing varies from one saddle company to another.

Measuring D to D is not the correct way to determine width. I don't understand why anyone bothers with it as the D's are positioned differently on different makes of saddle.
