Looking for some advice. We have a wonderful Section A whom we have had nearly a year - cracking lead rein pony & many lead rein rosettes won.
Here is where my difficulty lies, pony in question has obviously not been ridden too much off lead rein & like most Welsh breeds can be stubborn & head strong at times & at present my 6yr old just doesn't have the strength to correct this or have the strength to take her around a full course of jumps..
SO am looking for an older jockey , small & lightweight to take pony out & compete - she has a cracker of a jump! I ride her but Im way too big to go & compete her - pony needs to be doing more than she is.

How the heck do I try to find a suitable rider? We tried one & she was a spoilt brat so quickly put an end to that..

Pony Club and riding clubs are your best bet

An ideal situation would be a family where two kids share a pony, that way you get genuinely horsey people who understand the commitment

Word of mouth, I ride a few of that size that are all needing a bit of work on their schooling. They all found me on personal recomendation either by asking how X's small pony had come on so much or just asking people with similar sized ponies if they know any one suitable.

Have a look around at some local shows for little jockeys that you think would suit. My 9 year old competes in showing and jumping with her pony and has picked up 2 other little ponies to ride and compete this year by being approached at or after shows on facebook! I don't know about other parents, but I think its a great opportunity for her to ride lots of different ponies, she is helping to break in one as the owner is too big. I'm sure there would be other parents who would feel he same!
