This may sound a bit stupid but I would really appreciate any help:

My horsebox has steps for the jockey door, the kind that swivel in and out. The last few days they seem a bit 'off' and are more difficult to do. Before if you got them half way out their weight would pull them down, and if you got them half way up their weight would pull them up. Now their weight seems to work against them if you see what I mean. Do they have some kind of counter-weight which has come lose? Is this something that can be fixed or do they need to be replaced entirely? If it can be fixed is it a DIY job or do I need to get them to a horsebox manufacturer?

Many thanks for your thoughts!

There is generally no counter weight on steps

I would WD40 and get someone to take a look. I don't think you necessarily need a horsebox related person, just someone handy!

Mine are open, which don't look quite as nice, but means I can see what's going on!

We had this problem with ours. Just WD40'd them and they are back to normal. We keep a can in the lorry as our lorry doors get stiff too, and its good for the ramp hindges :)

Many thanks. The box is away this week having the living spruced up a bit but I will give it a generous spray of WD40 as soon as it comes back tomorrow!

My friends did this, it wasnt anything that needed oiling, they had sort of come off whatever thet attach too. My hubby who isnt DIY minded at all, sort or wiggled them about, banged them a bit and they clipped back into place. They have done it a few times since though
