How did you get into your line of work?

How much previous experience of breeding did you have before you started?

Ild love to get some experience on a big yard, my sister owns a small stud so im used to some aspects of breeding and im used to handling youngsters and stallions but our stallions normally run out with our mares and our mares foal out in the field so although i have experience im very aware that its not all 'correct' and for this reason I'ld love to be able to get some experience of doing things from a commercial yard. Im hoping to be able to get some work experience next breeding season, im also wanting to redo the AI tech. course as i did it a few yrs ago but have had a few out of action having children so want to brush up on it.

I work with TB's. I had never planned to.

I kept my horses at the yard owned by the stud groom of a TB stud. I was between jobs and she asked me if i wanted to do a couple of weeks work while the yearlings were at the sales to help them out... So I did and I stayed working there for almost 3 years.... I went to Australia and worked at a large TB stud over there for 2 years then came back to England.

I hadn't had any experience with foals, youngsters or stallions before.. (I'd handled competition stallions and 3yr olds and race horses at my previous job) I have learnt so much and still am!!

Good luck!!! Hope it goes well for you.

I saw the job advertised, went for a quick chat, started mainly as a dogs body. After a couple of weeks, once it was apparent I was competent and useful I got more and more involved with the covering and youngsters. I never did any actual foaling down as I lived 10miles away and didn't want to start the over night stay thing. But I did everything else from teasing to covering, to AI, to starting youngsters, etc, etc.
