As some of you may have read about me beaking my pony in to drive-i wont bore you by repeating myself. I do however have a quick question regarding the trap. I know some of you said about the robinsons version being flimsy but have decided as it would be to break my pony in and just to get us strarted that I dont want to spend alot of money in the first instance and could upgrade later on.

Anyway-my point is. in the catalgue the advert says small pony but the same item online says pony size. My pony is a 13.2hh new forest-would this trap be too small-i want to be able to see where im going and not be sat on the ground or tipped back facing the sky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i got my shetlands trap from robinsons nearly 2 years ago, it was when they first started doing them, its been great all ive had is a pucture! but she is only 36" and it just fits so wouldnt fit a standard shetland. Before i bought it i emailed robinsons and asked them the length of the shafts, the height of shafts from ground when seat is horizontal and the narrowist width between the shafts, that gave me an idea whether it would fit or not... x

I emailed them a few days ago-this was the response I recieved..I have to say it hasnt made it any clearer to me. Does it make any sense to you???? Ive looked in local ads but nothing and the trouble I have is that I woul;dnt be able to pick it up due to my car being a saloon with no tow bar!!

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately I am unable to advise if the Pony Trap will fit your Pony.

However here are the details that are available for product:

Height under tugs from 87 to 95 cm. Balance of the trap is with driver and passenger. Not an empty trap. Balance depends upon the seat position and the weight of the driver. The seat is adjustable with spanners. It is not changed much by "height under the tugs" which relates to the pony - the pony's height. As a rough guide height under tugs is; 11 Hands is 36 inchs or 915mm 12 Hand is 40 inchs or 1015mm 13 Hand is 43 inch or 1092mm but there are no "absolute" rights or wrongs. Many people have the trap ( floor) tilted back a tiny amount as it feels more comfortable. It is personal opinion in many cases

hmmm, have to say its not the clearest is it??!! ummm i dunno, you really need to find someone who has already bought a pony size one and ask them to take some measurements, although it does sound like it can be adjusted quite a bit, unlike mine! Unless you chance it will fit, and buy it, make it up (mine came in sevral 100 bits!) and if it fits great, if not then maybe try and sell it on for what you paid for it? sorry i cant be of any more help... you can always pm me if you want to ask anything else ....

As a guide, measure the height of your pony from the ground to where the shafts should sit in use, if it is between the range of 87 - 95cm, then it could fit, but I think you will find it to be too small.
I had a vehicle made-to-measure for just £300. It doesn't have a balance seat but, because it is made-to-measure, it does not matter, unless you want to use it on more than one animal. I can get the contact details if you want them. Please PM if you do.
