As I got told 'not to bend down' (for fear of youngster jumping up and kicking a leg out) how does one catch said youngster who is laying down and taking her time at getting up! I had to put her lead line on, but in doing so had to bend down?!
Am I being really dim?

As it was she was very sleepy and chilled, i felt no danger looming. (But I do understand they can jump up quickly!)

I have on lots of occasions put a headcollar on my boy when he is lying down in the field. I am very aware of the fact he could get up in a rush and I could be knocked over. I have owned him for 11 years and know him well. I think I would be wary of doing it with a youngster and would suggest you catch him up when he is on all four feet.

Agree, but the slight problem of her NOT wanting to get up - even when the other 2 were being led to the gate... and a chinook thingy flew over - she went all flat again. I kept thinking OMG, she is poorly! All I did was bend down to get the line on her head collar which she was already wearing. She did get up - took a while of pulling  and went 'yeah, ok - whatever'!!
I also approached her from her 'back' away from the legs - if that makes sense.

If she's that laid back, what are the chances of her suddenly jumping up and striking out?! Just put the headcollar on and stop fussing lol.

If you're really bothered you could make sure you have a treat, clap at her to get her attention then show her the treat and she will probably stand up, if that's the only way she can get you to give it to her. If she's not motivated by food then it won't work.
