Im doing an investigative project on different types of suppling exercisses for horses and how they can help its way of going

Please can you fill in my questionnaire it would be a huge help

9) combination of all of them.When she was young, loose lunging with her stretching till her nose was almost on the floor & leg yield were of most benefit iirc.

I stretch out his hind legs behind him when I pick out feet too after physio suggested doing it

most days for all the non ridden stretches

Yes definitely, following a neck injury a few months ago he is prone to stiffening up like a board and these stretches without doubt make him more confortable, happier and easier to ride

All of them combined!

All of the above plus in hand pole work

carrot stretches 4-5x per week
2 sessions a week including some or all of the others (about 20-30 minutes a session)

Combination of all - pole work especially good when coming back from injury

6) How often do you do these? carrot stretches most days, others about once a week
7) Do you find that they help the horses’ way of going? Yes/No Yes
9) If yes which do you find works best? counter flexion is good to help to encourage him to work into the oustide rein and leg yield encourages him to move forwards and away from the inside leg

4) what is your horses temperament? Quirky, sharp and sensitive

a) Carrot stretches (stretching head and neck side to side and between front legs) - Yes, every day before I turn him out
b) Stretching out front legs - Yes, every time I tack him up to ride or lunge him - so 5-6 times a week
c) Leg Yielding - Yes, every time we ride and every time I lunge or work with him from the ground - so 5/6 times a week
d) Counter Flexion - No, and I'm not sure why not
e) Other – please state - shoulder in - same as leg yield

9) If yes which do you find works best? Leg yield . . . Kali is fairly free and loose through his neck and shoulders but his hind quarters/pelvis is relatively locked by comparison - so anything that gets him really using his back end helps him really "connect"

4) what is your horses temperament? cheeky, genuine, Fairly quiet, but can be excitable
