Hi, we are thinking of getting a horse vetted but have a few quetsions:

-How much does a 2 Stage and a 5 Stage cost?
-What are the differences between the two, what does each one cover?

We were thinking of getting a 2 Stage done, the horse is 15 and will be used for general riding with the view to compete up to BE100 over the next four years.

Thanks! xx

A 5 stage vetting will be somewhere in the region of £250.

The vet will 'look' at the horse, feel it all over, ask you if you have any concerns you want them to check. The horse will be trotted up, have flexion tests done. The vet will look in the horses eyes and in it's mouth. the horse will be ridden to get it working and breathing hard - usually trot and canter work in an arena for about 20 mins so that he can hear it's breathing and check it's heart rate. He will have listed to it's heart beforehand too.
They will take a blood sample which they will keep for 6 months. This is so that if when you get the horse home and it turns into a complete loon, you can have the blood checked for drugs.

I think with the 2 stage vetting they don't do the ridden bit or the bloods.
