My older horse, Pinto (in my sig), is currently in hospital with colic and the prognosis remains guarded.
He hasn't really responded to IV hydration or to stomach drenching, and at the last update, hadn't defecated in more than 36 hours.
HR remains extremely elevated despite high doses of pain relief.
I found him on Friday evening extremely dehydrated and going into shock (though I didn't know this at the time - it was just when the vet told me after blood tests and exams. All I knew was that he was very distressed, though he wasn't showing typical colic signs (no belly watching or kicking, no attempting to lie down and roll, no sitting or groaning etc).
The vet is throwing mixed messages which I'm finding confusing and distressing. On one hand talking about checking teeth and liver enzymes again before he goes home, and on the other what they can do as a "last resort" if there is no further change in 24 hours.
Sorry not really a question in there, more like a ramble/vent.
I'm so worried... sorry.
