So I'm off to see a companion pony at WHW on Sunday. Want to write down questions now so I'm ready, can anyone think of anything I've forgotten?

What was his history, I know some of it already.

What's he like with vet, farrier, teeth

Any health issues

Has he ever had a rug on

What's he like with traffic, new things as would like to take him for walks in hand

Easy to catch?

Will he leave others, is he happy to go away from friends

Is he given any extra feed, if so what?

Anything else?

When I look at a horse I have about 100 questions, but when push comes to shove you either fall in love or you do not. When I bought my boy one of my questions would be about ridden vices, so why I fell in love with a habitual rearer I cannot explain!!! The owner declared it, was very honest about how bad it was, but love is love.....
I would say especially for a companion pony it is all about how you feel.
Before you think I am crackers, my boy and I are doing just fine, he rarely rears, and is doing very well BD Be and BS! It is not an exact science and each horse will have its own deal with you.

Good luck with your trip to WHW, I hope you and the pony find your ideal partners.

He's middle of pecking order, will be living with three other geldings at my friends field.

He's got slight conformation probs, he goes slightly lame when ridden so hence him being a companion.

Sounds lovely - photos when he arrives, my companion from Bransby is wonderful and when my big horse had an issue (luckily nothing as it turned out) I discussed getting a companion for him just so he didn't have to go back !!

maybe find out about seasonal probems such as sweet itch, mud fever. lamminitis etc. may not be easy to keep weight down if cant be exercised much.
can he be stabled,etc
