Quick BS registration name question

Just filling out the forms, as far as I was aware his registered name had to be his passport name, which is fine, but was a bit confused as why I had to put two other choices? I thought they added numerals to it if there is a horse with another name? Has anyone been given their second or third choice?

My mare is Champagne (GB) on her passport (shb(gb)) but when I registered her BS they sent me back Champagne VIII or something stupid so I rang them and said I wasnt happy and could I not have my second choice, no was the answer along with my 3rd choice! However whilst on the phoen i said well what about the (GB) bit without brackets?? They taped away at the computer and hey presto I was allow Champagne GB!

So why do they ask for second and third choices?! Lol! I named him myself so should be fine, fingers crossed. My 138 is 'Rosie XVIII' I'm sure people could be a bit more creative! Lol

They are old out dated forms, i affiliated my old horse back in 2003 and she was registered under a different name to her passport. Admittedly it was my first choice with numbers on but i think the forms are from the day before you had passports for every horse so could pick what you wanted.
Was quite glad i didnt have to register as her under her passport name as it wasnt great mind you neither is my current boys!

How does it work when your horse has no name on there passport? (he isn't even unnamed he just has a blank space!) Can you just choose what you like? I have a showname for him that I use unaffiliated but I do eventually plan on affiliating him.
