First lead rein class on Sunday. My son is 4 and riding his chestnut welsh b pony. Son is wearing red waist coat, navy tie with tweed.
I have matching waitcoat but tweed is very slightly different. I do have beige trousers but as pony has light coloured legs would black trousers look better?
Also i have a tweed flat cap that is of a bigger tweed pattern than my jacket, will it be ok to wear or shall i brave it without my jacket?

Sounds fine (although I'm not keen on red waistcoats and some judges loathe them! However, I am sure it will make no difference and you probably need it to keep him warm!) - I would wear the beige trousers which sounds like they would look nicer than black ones and I would definitely wear a jacket! You need to wear a hat of some sort.

Also, I think a brighter tie would look nicer than a navy one (which may look black and is a definite no no in the ring). I used to buy my son the skinny ties from tie rack (or charity shop) and then chop them to the right size. If you get the skinny ones they look OK on kids - normal adult ties don't tie nicely and take up two thirds of the child! My son had a yellow tie on his m&m

Thank you for your reply - didn't know red was frowned upon. Its only a very local show so lets hope we get away with it.
Will wear the flap cap, its our first time out so didn't want to go too mad on buying a showing wardrobe first time out.

The red will be fine - quite a few people do wear red ones now but they were frowned upon "in the olden days" and even now in some of the sidesaddle classes, even well known people wearing red waistcoats are put at the end of the line!

It is more acceptable in flat classes, but I work on the premise if I am not sure then I probably avoid it!
