I know this has been answered before, but I cannot remember the answer! I've got my hay for next year, but was wondering when I can use it. It was cut last month and was still a bit green when I got it. Next door neighbours are quite old school and are adamant that I can't use it until after Christmas, but I seem to remember someone saying it could be used before this. If not then I'm going to have to have a search for some of last years to tide me over!

I'm sure Tiaribbon said that as long as it's bone dry it shoud be fine to feed. But I could be wrong!!!

You can use it now no problem.

The only thing you need to make sure of is that the inside of the bale isnt warm. Open a bale the day before you want to use it and ease the flaps apart to make sure its cold for the following day.

It will have a higher feed value now than if you left it till Christmas but it is perfectly ok to use this years hay.

This is apparantly a myth!!

As long as it is not warm and is dry it's fine. Mine have been eating this years hay and they're still standing - they actually prefer it to haylage!!
