OK, I always have issues with counter canter as madam has a very SJ way of going and doesn't see the point. I can get her to CC on the left rein, but on the right she just does a change (not always, but most of the time). I have an Elementary test on Sun and I have to CC across the diagonal then a 1/2 20m circle and a simple change. How the hell can I stop her changing when she gets back to the track

Oh bu**er!
The only other thing I can think of - and I know the dressage peeps will have a fit - is to drop her onto her forehand in the cc - that way she won't be able to pick her front legs high enough to change!!
Sorry not much help.

I was told by Vicki Thompson at Oldencraig- ooh la la im reli name dropping there lol, that sometimes if you overbend them in CC it makes them unbalanced and then they are more likely to change- one of my horses used to change everytime so to I tried to stop her doing it by overbending her which made it worse apparantly

. I then relaxed

, made her straighter in the CC- even on circle and it worked! Try not to focus on it too much as it may make u tense and make ponio tense and therefore change aswel- breathe and don't override! Have fun and if it does go wrong its only one movement- I saw many mistakes even in the olympic dressage!!

Try to keep she shoulder up to the outside rather than asking for outside bend - hope that makes some sort of sense?

Where as on correct canter you should not have too much inside bend try applying the principal of inside leg to outside hand (which in CC is the inside) in the counter canter.

Not sure I have explained that very well!

Archie thinks diagonal in canter or any form of counter canter means flying change now
